The Pursuit of Inner Peace: Where the Heart Settles
stood at the airport gate, my heart pounding as I prepared to leave Iran. At 30, I was walking away from everything familiar—family, culture, and the life I had built as an architect—in search of something more in Australia. The decision wasn’t easy, but I felt stifled by the limitations in my home country. I wanted freedom, not just professionally but personally, to grow and thrive in ways I couldn’t back home.
Arriving in Australia was overwhelming. The loneliness hit hard, and finding work felt like starting from scratch. Rejections piled up, and doubt crept in. But I reminded myself why I left—I wanted the chance to create a life on my terms.
In time, I found others like me—immigrants, searching for belonging in a new place. Slowly, I began to carve out a new sense of home. I realized that leaving Iran wasn’t just about geography—it was about discovering who I could be when given the freedom to explore. Now, I’m still building, still searching. But I’ve learned that home isn’t just a place—it’s something you carry within you. And for the first time, I feel like I’m finding mine.
